The Jungle Book ‘Creating the Animals and the Jungle’ – VFX Breakdown by MPC (2016)
2017-04-06
This VFX breakdown by MPC is fascinating!
I love breakdowns, sometimes they seem like a production themselves!
The environments are beautiful in this film. It’s a lesson in how to make beautiful CGI.
The snippets of location scouting photography, vegetation images taken with colour reference cards were insightful. How good is the water simulation and interaction with animals! What about the mud being pushed away by the buffallo! Loving the layering of environment elements, atmospherics such as light rays, and bloom, and additional surface details.
Quixel Megascans were used to texture the landscape. Speed tree was utilised to create the trees and foliage.
Here is an equally fascinating interview with Adam Valdez, VFX Supervisor, MPC.
