One click to organise Revit FBX files in 3Ds Max.

Detach objects by material, keep the original editable mesh, without deforming the topology. Easily replace materials.

Re-name objects by their category, object name, and material. A great reference when applying new materials.

Combining catagorised layers, with objects split by material, allows you to navigate the scene easily, turn off ceilings if needed etc.

The script enables you to run components seperately.

Create a selection set for glass, to assign a glass material, and as a Vray override material.

Revit to Max was developed to clean up and organise Revit FBX files in 3Ds Max, in one click.
Revit files are essential to an Arch viz project, however most elements will need to be re modeled, and materials applied.
This script provides a consistent layering and object organisation that would otherwise take hours to do manually.
I’ve imported many many FBX files, this is the script I wish i had!
It streamlines the import process from initial FBX import, and addresses all the issues along the way, ie imperial scaling from FBX, removing Autodesk’s Art renderer, and assigning your renderer of choice, deleting or layering the sun system etc etc.
For versatility, the script enables you to run components seperately, and save your custom default settings.

Using the script

Click the icon to open the UI //    Toggle Manage Links Dialog. Select your FBX.
Preset; Autodesk Revit – Combine By Revit Category. Attach this file.
Click Yes on the Daylight System EV Option if you like.
Bind the file //   Files tab, Bind…
Running the Script //   Click ‘Select all’, then hit >>Process Selected<<.
Multiple Layers //   Some components such as stairs and railings create layers for each object. To fix this; Make the Stair layer Active, select all the layers with these objects, Select children, Add to active layer. You may want to consolidate other layers too. Right click and remove empty layers.

Turn Viewport maps on/off //

Quick Render

Add Vray Plane //   Create, Vray, Vray Plane, assign grey material.
Assign Glass Material //   Use Glass selection set.
Vray Sun Sky  //   Remember to change Shadow Bias to .002
Add Physical Camera  //   Set EV to 13.5
Render Settings  //   The usual business, up the Dyn mem limit, I choose Bucket mode, Sequence: Top to bottom, Low Thread Priority.
Quick  //   Min Shading Rate:2, Image sampler 1:4, Noise Thresh: .01
Quality  //  Min Shading Rate:6, Image sampler 1:24, Noise Thresh: .005

How To Install

Unzip the Revit to Max folder.
Copy the Macroscripts and Icons folders to your Max Root Directory.
Open 3Ds Max, Customize, Customize user interface, Toolbars tab, Category: Vizguy.
Drag the Revit2Max icon to your toolbar.
